In the Kitchen

Unsecured cabinet doors can unexpectedly fly open in an earthquake, allowing china and glassware to come crashing down onto the floor. This risk can be prevented by using latches on the doors.

There are many types of latches designed to keep doors closed, including child-proof latches, hook and eye latches and positive catch latches that are used on boats.

Any gas appliances should be fitted with flexible connector pipes to minimize the risk of fire as more rigid connectors can break, causing gas to leak.

Flexible nylon straps (as shown), will secure heavy appliances in place.
